SSMN BOARD OF DIRECTORS VOLUNTEER APPLICATION

Sustainable Stillwater MN (SSMN) is seeking applicants for our Board of Directors for our nonprofit 501c3 organization.

SSMN is organized exclusively to facilitate education and implementation of sustainable lifestyles that promote social, economic, and environmental well-being in and around Stillwater, MN. We are looking for applicants with extensive experience and knowledge with 501c3 nonprofits, fundraising, marketing, and community activism.

A Director on the Board is an unpaid volunteer position. Directors are responsible for the policy and direction of the organization. Application to the board is open to any current resident, property owner, business operator, or an employee within ten miles of the city of Stillwater, Minnesota. Individuals residing or operating a business outside the 10-mile radius of Stillwater may be eligible with the approval of the majority of the current board.

Term length: Two years of dedication are recommended for new board members. If you are elected to a position on the executive committee you shall commit to two years after you are sworn into the position. You are then eligible for reelection for up to three consecutive terms in the same position. 

The Board of Directors meets every month for 2 hours to discuss strategic planning and hear updates from board committees and workgroups.

All board members are required to be involved in a standing board committee: communications, finance/fundraising, or membership. They are expected to take initiative and progress the committee's purpose and goals. The committees meet separately outside of board meetings to complete their duties and goals.  

Board members are expected to devote at least 10 hours a month towards SSMN. This includes but not limited to the following: board meetings, strategic planning, policy reviews, new initiative reviews, workgroup reviews, standing committee work, attend/help at SSMN events, and any additional tasks for organizing/implementing initiatives for workgroups they are also involved in making successful.
