About the Event
Hosted by the Washington County Environmental Center, Fix-It Clinics are free, hands-on events designed to help reduce waste while empowering community members with practical repair skills. Instead of tossing broken household items, participants are invited to bring them in and work one-on-one with skilled volunteers to troubleshoot, disassemble, and attempt repairs. Whether it’s a small appliance, clothing in need of mending, or a household gadget, these clinics offer a welcoming space to learn, share knowledge, and extend the life of everyday items. While repairs are not guaranteed, the experience offers valuable insight into how things work—and how they can be fixed.
Participants may bring up to two items (no oversized items), and assistance is provided on a first-come, first-served basis, with the last items accepted at 1:30 PM. Items must be able to be carried in and out, and if they cannot be repaired, attendees are responsible for proper disposal. The clinics are open to everyone and cover a wide range of common repairs, from replacing lamp cords and vacuum belts to mending clothing and textiles. Additional resources like iFixit and RepairClinic are also available for continued learning beyond the event.
Sustainable Stillwater MN is proud to promote Fix-It Clinics because they directly support a more sustainable, circular economy. These events help reduce landfill waste, conserve resources, and encourage a culture of reuse and repair—values that align closely with our mission. By learning how to fix items instead of replacing them, community members not only save money but also deepen their connection to the things they own and the environmental impact of their choices. Fix-It Clinics are a simple yet powerful way to take meaningful action toward a more sustainable future—one repair at a time.
