About the Event

At Sustainable Stillwater MN, we believe that protecting our community means not only caring for our environment, but also understanding the hidden ways it impacts our health. That’s why we are proud to support the free screening of Plastic People: The Hidden Crisis of Microplastics — a groundbreaking film that reveals the startling truth about our relationship with plastic and its unseen effects on the human body.

Plastic People uncovers how nearly every piece of plastic ever made breaks down into microscopic fragments that drift in the air, contaminate soil and water, and ultimately enter our bodies. Scientists are now finding these microplastics in organs, blood, brain tissue, and even the placentas of newborn babies. What does this mean for our health and our future? This urgent question is at the heart of the film.

Through the lens of acclaimed author and science journalist Ziya Tong and award-winning director Ben Addelman, the documentary blends global investigations with personal experiments — even testing Tong’s own home, food, and body — to show how deeply plastic has infiltrated our lives. Alongside leading scientists, Plastic People challenges us to rethink our dependence on this material and inspires us to imagine healthier, more sustainable solutions.

By supporting this screening, Sustainable Stillwater MN hopes to spark dialogue, raise awareness, and empower our community to see the plastic crisis not only as an environmental issue but also as a personal and public health challenge that affects us all.

This special screening is free and open to the public! It's being hosted by Sierra Club, the Coalition for Plastic Reduction, Eureka Recycling, the Minnesota Zero Waste Coalition, Food and Water Watch, Northeast Metro Climate Action, and the Vadnais Heights Green Team!
