Who We Are
Sustainable Stillwater MN (SSMN) was born from a 2013 community visioning session led by passionate local students who dreamed of a greener Stillwater. Officially launched in 2016 and incorporated as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in 2019, SSMN has been working ever since to build a more sustainable future — strengthening our local economy, protecting our environment, and empowering our community to thrive for generations to come.

Land Acknowledgement:
This land has long been home to the Dakota and Ojibwe peoples, as well as other Indigenous groups, who cared for the St. Croix River Valley for generations. We recognize the injustices Indigenous communities have faced, as well as their continued connection with this land. In the 1800s, settlers arrived adding their own spirit and traditions to the region. Together, Indigenous peoples, settlers, and immigrants shaped Stillwater’s story: a story of resilience and community. SSMN recognizes those who came before us and with a shared commitment to care for this place we all call home.
