OUR VISION: We seek to preserve our environment and champion a healthy and resilient community.
OUR MISSION: Create and support local initiatives that promote sustainability in the Stillwater, Minnesota area.
The idea for Sustainable Stillwater MN kicked off in May 2013 with a community-wide visioning session led by high school students with a passion for a greener community. In June 2016 Sustainable Stillwater MN was officially introduced publicly.
Since then, our management team has added momentum to the many wonderful sustainability initiatives already in Stillwater, such as storm drain stenciling, Keep America Beautiful cigarette collection boxes, the downtown business waste management program S.E.E.D., promotion of energy management for carbon reduction, Safe Routes to School in partnership with Friends of Stillwater Trails, the adoption by Stillwater of the GreenStep Cities plan, and caring for our land and water resources, i.e. rain garden adoptions, bluebird recovery, and healthy plant diversity of our public lands.
On March 4, 2019, SSMN became a 501c3 nonprofit charitable organization.
OUR 3 PILLARS
When we are creating or supporting new initiatives, we consider these three pillars.
We strive for healthy, active living with equitable, accessible, and socially connected communities.
We aim for socially conscious and earth-friendly local businesses supported by local consumers and destination-minded tourists.
We seek resource conservation, energy, and waste reduction as well as support renewables and earth-friendly practices.
SEVEN CORE VALUES
These are the basic, fundamental values for how we operate in all of the work that we do.
1 - ADAPTABILITY
Able to adjust with unexpected disturbances
In all we do, SSMN pledges to achieve a healthier community positioned to anticipate and withstand current and future challenges and to build ways and means for economic stability and healthy lives.
