About Event
Ever wonder what happens after you take out the trash? Come find out! Join Sustainable Stillwater MN for a free tour of the Ramsey/Washington Recycling & Energy Center in Newport and get an inside look at how our local waste system works.
The R&E Center processes more than 1,000 tons of trash every day, recovering recyclable metals, separating food scraps, and turning remaining waste into fuel used to generate electricity. During this tour, you'll learn how the facility works, participate in a hands-on activity, and observe parts of the trash processing operation—including the robots that separate our green food scraps bags from the rest of the trash!
We'll also explore how the Ramsey/Washington County Food Scraps Pickup Program helps keep food waste out of landfills and sends it for composting. You'll leave with a better understanding of where your waste goes and practical ways to reduce, reuse, recycle, and recover more resources at home and at work.
