On a sunny day, our dedicated volunteers gathered at Browns Creek Park to give some much-needed attention to the Bird-Friendly Native Prairie Garden, which was planted in 2021. This vibrant space provides vital resources for local bird species, offering food in the form of seeds, fruit, nuts, nectar, and insects, as well as nesting, shelter, and water sources.
Our team of seven volunteers, representing various parts of the community, took part in essential maintenance tasks such as weeding and planting. The turnout of six individuals for this session underscores the community’s commitment to preserving this beautiful and important habitat.
In addition to its ecological benefits, this garden serves as a demonstration site to inspire others to create bird-friendly gardens of their own. We are fortunate to have Joanna Eckles, a Stillwater resident and expert from the American Bird Conservancy, providing invaluable guidance on this project.
If you have any questions or would like to get involved in future maintenance efforts, please don't hesitate to reach out to me, Allison Haag McGinnis, at Sustainable Stillwater MN.
