About the Event

Unraveling the Impact of Fast Fashion on Our Changing Climate features Dr. Elizabeth (Missy) Bye, Professor Emeritus at the University of Minnesota’s College of Design and a distinguished scholar in textile and apparel research. Dr. Bye’s work bridges design, manufacturing, and sustainability, making her a leading voice in understanding the environmental costs of the global fashion industry. This event will explore how fast fashion contributes to greenhouse gas emissions, resource depletion, and waste—and share steps individuals and communities can take toward more sustainable choices.

Sustainable Stillwater MN is proud to cohost this event because fashion is deeply tied to the pillars of sustainability we advocate for: Economy, Environment, and Community. The production and disposal of clothing have significant climate impacts, but they also present opportunities for innovation, local business support, and community education. By highlighting the hidden costs of fast fashion, we can empower residents to make informed choices that reduce carbon footprints, protect natural resources, and build a culture of responsibility that benefits everyone in the St. Croix Valley and beyond.
