Downtown residents Cameron and Rene Murray started a storm drain stenciling project downtown in 2019 as an addon to their 2018 efforts to pick up cigarette litter. During the summer of 2019, they looked for easier ways to meet that challenge and discovered a campaign that had produced very nifty metal cigarette disposal canisters. They urged the City and Sustainable Stillwater MN to try that system.
Success!! The city installed 38 containers around downtown and the system was established. Bob Barratt has taken over managing the project. The attached photos show the beautiful simplicity of the program.
