What should a climate-ready Washington County look like? From cleaner transportation and healthier natural spaces to stronger local economies and more resilient neighborhoods, the decisions we make today can help shape our future.

Washington County is asking residents to review its Draft Climate Action Plan and share feedback by November 15, 2026. This is an opportunity to weigh in on how our county prepares for climate change and works toward a more sustainable future.

What Is a Climate Action Plan?

A Climate Action Plan is a roadmap for responding to climate change. It examines how weather patterns and the environment are changing, considers what we can expect in the future, and outlines strategies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and prepare for climate-related impacts.

Washington County's plan takes a data-driven approach to strengthening environmental, economic, and social resilience. Its strategies will help guide how the county addresses climate challenges and supports the well-being of the people who live and work here.

Your Feedback Matters

The county has already gathered public input on climate priorities and draft goals and strategies. That feedback helped shape the current draft, and now residents have another opportunity to review the proposed plan and help refine its direction.

Take some time to review the draft and share your thoughts. Consider which strategies feel most important, where you see opportunities for improvement, and what actions could make the biggest difference for Washington County communities.

How to Participate

You don't need to be a climate expert to participate. Start with the executive summary if you're short on time, or explore the full plan if you'd like a closer look at the proposed strategies.

The public comment period closes November 15, 2026.

Climate action isn't just about reducing emissions. It's also about preparing our communities for changing conditions, protecting the natural resources we depend on, and making thoughtful decisions that benefit people and the local economy.

At Sustainable Stillwater MN, we believe local voices matter in shaping a more sustainable future. Reviewing the Draft Climate Action Plan is one way to help ensure the county's approach reflects the needs, priorities, and ideas of the people who call this area home.

Read the draft. Share your feedback. Help shape what's next for Washington County.
