About the Event

Sustainable Stillwater MN is pleased to promote this free community education event that helps residents recycle more effectively and reduce unnecessary waste. While many people are eager to recycle correctly, unclear guidelines often lead to “wish-cycling,” where non-recyclable items are placed in recycling bins. This well-intentioned practice can actually disrupt recycling systems, contaminate materials, and increase processing costs.

Hosted by River Market Community Co-op and led by environmental specialists from the Washington County Department of Public Health and Environment, this online session breaks down local recycling rules in a clear and practical way. Participants will learn which items commonly cause confusion, why certain materials are not recyclable, and how to make confident, informed decisions at home that support a more efficient recycling system.

Sustainable Stillwater MN promotes events like this because education is essential to building a healthier and more resilient community. By connecting residents with trusted local experts and accurate information, we help ensure that everyday actions—like recycling—truly contribute to environmental protection, resource conservation, and long-term sustainability in the Stillwater area.
