When the World Feels Heavy, Community Matters

A heart-warming message from our Executive Director, Andi Arnold:

I am proud to be a Minnesotan. We are people who take care of our neighbors. Showing up for one another in both ordinary moments and times of uncertainty. Lately, many of us may be feeling overwhelmed or discouraged as we witness division and decisions being made far beyond our control. The intensity of recent events has left many of us feeling concerned and unsettled.

Two people in winter coats and hats embrace on a snow-covered path in a pine forest. Warm sunlight filters through the trees, creating a peaceful scene.

At the same time, we are seeing national and global shifts that affect our climate, health, and shared future. These moments can feel heavy, even paralyzing. And yet, this is exactly when community matters most.

While we may not control what happens nationally or globally, we do have power locally. We can care for our neighbors, protect our environment, support local businesses, and show up for one another with compassion and integrity. Small, consistent actions that are rooted in community can create real and lasting impact.

This is the heart of Sustainable Stillwater MN. Our work is about stewardship, resilience, and shared responsibility. Bringing people together to care for the land, water, economy, and community we all depend on. Getting involved doesn’t require expertise; it simply starts with showing up and connecting with others who care about this place.

Please take care of yourselves and one another. Stay connected, stay hopeful, and know that you are not alone. If you’re looking for a way to turn concern into action, we invite you to get involved locally with Sustainable Stillwater MN. And if not with us, follow your heart, but commit to volunteering and getting involved locally and make a positive difference.
