Birding by Boat Adventure Rewards Gala Winners

Some experiences simply can't be wrapped up in a gift bag.

On June 14, a lucky group of community members enjoyed an unforgettable Birding by Boat tour on the beautiful St. Croix River after winning the experience during Sustainable Stillwater MN's 2025 Annual Gala silent auction.

Led by Bird City Program Leader Allison McGinnis, the group cruised the river in search of local wildlife—and the birds certainly delivered! Participants spotted 24 different species, including majestic Bald Eagles, Osprey, Turkey Vultures, Great Blue Herons, White Pelicans, swallows, and many more.

The outing was made even more special thanks to LeeAnn and Dave Sherlock, who generously donated both their boat and their time to make the adventure possible, including covering the cost of fuel.

Beyond the impressive bird list, the morning was filled with great conversations, shared curiosity, and a deeper appreciation for the incredible habitat that the St. Croix River provides for wildlife. It's a reminder that some of the best ways to connect with nature are also the simplest: slow down, look up, and enjoy the journey together.
