Sustainability Leadership Award Honoree: Del Peterson, Friends of Lily Lake

If you’ve ever enjoyed the peaceful waters of Lily Lake, you’ve experienced the quiet legacy of Del Peterson. For nearly three decades, Del has been a driving force behind the restoration and protection of this Stillwater treasure through his tireless work with the Friends of Lily Lake.

Del Peterson

Del helped lead the “Save Lily Lake” campaign, which began in 1998 when the lake faced significant phosphorus pollution and declining water quality. Through years of collaboration with local agencies, residents, and volunteers, Del and his fellow advocates built community momentum for lasting change. Their persistence paid off — in 2023, Lily Lake was officially removed from Minnesota’s impaired waters list, marking a major victory for local water stewardship.
