Trinity Lutheran Church to Install EV Charging Stations: A Milestone for Sustainable Transportation in Downtown Stillwater

We’re excited to support Trinity Lutheran Church in their efforts to install four electric vehicle (EV) charging stations in its south parking lot, becoming the first public EV chargers near downtown Stillwater. This project is not just about infrastructure—it’s a powerful example of community-led climate action.

What’s Being Installed

The church will be installing four charging stations, each with one plug:

• Two stations will have J1772 plugs, the current standard for most EVs on the road today.

• Two stations will use NACS plugs, the new industry standard being adopted by major automakers going forward.

This dual compatibility ensures that both today’s EV drivers and the next generation of electric vehicles will be supported—whether you're already driving electric or planning to in the near future.

Fundraising in Progress

To make this project a reality, Trinity Lutheran is currently raising funds through individual donations and partnerships with local Stillwater businesses and organizations. It’s a collaborative effort and a chance for the community to come together around a shared goal: cleaner air, lower emissions, and a stronger local economy.

Why This Matters

At Sustainable Stillwater MN, we believe transportation is one of the core pillars of local sustainability. Supporting EV infrastructure has ripple effects that benefit everyone:

• Cleaner Air & Lower Emissions: Electric vehicles produce no tailpipe emissions, helping reduce air pollution and improve public health.

As the first chargers near downtown, this is a strategic location that will serve both residents and visitors, positioning Stillwater as a forward-thinking, EV-friendly community.
