Victory in the Valley: Solar Panels Coming to More Stillwater Schools! 🌞

Sustainable Stillwater MN is thrilled to celebrate a major win for sustainability in our community—solar panels are being installed at Stillwater Area High School! This exciting news follows last fall’s installation at Brookview Elementary, marking a significant expansion of renewable energy use across the Stillwater Area Public Schools.

The district’s commitment to solar energy began over a decade ago when the Early Childhood Family Center incorporated solar panels during its construction in 2012. Now, the momentum continues with even more projects on the horizon. The two new elementary schools being built in Bayport and Lake Elmo will also feature solar panels once completed, as part of the district’s ongoing participation in a state program that helps offset installation costs. Plus, as older roofs are replaced on existing schools, the district plans to add solar panels wherever feasible.

Superintendent Mike Funk summed it up perfectly:

“This is a win-win for our district. Not only will solar energy help us save money in the long run, but it’s also the right thing to do for the environment. By investing in renewable energy, we’re setting a positive example for our students and helping to create a more sustainable future.”

This initiative isn’t just about saving money—it's about fostering a mindset of environmental stewardship among students and the community. Incorporating renewable energy into our schools reduces the district’s carbon footprint, aligns with state sustainability goals, and sets the stage for a cleaner, greener future.

We at Sustainable Stillwater MN are proud to support and celebrate these positive changes. As more schools join the solar movement, we’re reminded of how impactful community-driven initiatives can be. Let’s keep pushing for a sustainable future together!
