Young Riders Build Skills and Confidence at the SPD's Annual Bike Safety Rodeo

The St. Croix Valley Recreation Center was filled with young cyclists, excited families, and plenty of smiles as children put their biking skills to the test at this year's Youth Bike Safety Rodeo.

Indoor cycling event in a blue-and-white dome, with adults and kids on bikes and trikes navigating orange cones.

Hosted in collaboration with the Stillwater Police Department, Sustainable Stillwater MN, and the Stillwater Area High School Mountain Bike Team, the event gave young riders a chance to practice essential bicycle safety skills in a fun, supportive environment.

Participants worked through a series of hands-on riding stations designed to help them learn everything from quick stops and sharp turns to safely navigating intersections and traffic situations.

More than 60 young riders participated throughout the day, building confidence while gaining valuable experience that will help keep them safe on trails, sidewalks, and neighborhood streets. Parents and caregivers cheered them on as they completed each challenge, and many left with new skills—and bigger smiles—than when they arrived.

Events like the Bike Rodeo help create a stronger foundation for lifelong bicycling by teaching safe riding habits at an early age. They also highlight the power of local partnerships working together to support healthy, active transportation for families across the St. Croix Valley.

A big thank you to the Stillwater Police Department, the Stillwater Area High School Mountain Bike Team, volunteers, and all the families who joined us for a day of learning, laughter, and two-wheeled fun. We look forward to seeing even more young riders on the course next year!
