May is dedicated to bikes—and Sustainable Stillwater MN is all in.

We’re kicking things off with Bike & Roll to School Day on May 6 —a fun, high-energy morning that gets students moving and builds lifelong habits around active transportation. Volunteers help welcome riders, support school staff, and celebrate students who choose to bike or roll their way to school. It’s a simple event with a big impact, creating safer, more connected school communities while showing just how doable biking can be.
Next up is the Stillwater Police Department Youth Bike Safety Rodeo on May 16, a hands-on event focused on building skills and confidence for young riders. Kids can practice bike handling, learn the rules of the road, and make sure their gear is safe and ready to ride. It’s also a great opportunity for families to connect with local safety experts—and we’re still looking for volunteers to help make it all run smoothly.
And the momentum keeps going. National Ride a Bike Day rolls in on May 3, giving everyone a reason to get out for a spin. Bike to Work Week (May 11–17) is perfect for trying out a new commute routine, even if it’s just one day. Then Bike to Work Day on May 15 brings it all together—a shared moment across the community to choose two wheels over four and experience the difference for yourself.
And if you need a little extra motivation? We’ve got a fun one: Bike Month Bingo. It’s a simple, playful way to mix up your routine and try something new. Ride to a friend’s house. Grab ice cream by bike. Run an errand without your car. Join a group ride. Try a quick safety check. Whether you’re a daily commuter or just dusting off your bike for the season, there’s something on that board for you.

Bike Month is about more than just getting from point A to point B. It’s about rediscovering your community at a slower pace, feeling that first warm breeze of spring, and realizing how accessible and enjoyable biking can be. It’s also a chance to build confidence.
If you’ve ever thought, “I’m out of shape,” “It’s too far,” or “I don’t have the right gear,” you’re not alone—and none of those are dealbreakers. Start small. Ride what feels comfortable. Mix biking with other transportation if you need to. Progress builds quickly, and so does the enjoyment.
At Sustainable Stillwater MN, we support biking because it connects directly to what we care about: healthier people, cleaner air, and a more vibrant, connected community. Every ride—whether it’s to work, to school, or just around the block—makes a difference.
So this May, consider this your invitation: hop on your bike, try something new, and have some fun with it.
We’ll see you out there!
