John B. Goodman Trail Ribbon Cutting – A New Pathway to Nature!

Updated: 2 days ago

On Monday, October 13, 2025, nearly 75 community members gathered at The Lakes Senior Living Community to celebrate the grand opening of the John B. Goodman Trail! After the ribbon cutting, 15 participants joined birding leads George Vania and Allison McGinnis of Bird City Stillwater (a program of Sustainable Stillwater MN) for a guided walk along the new loop trail.

The trail winds through a stunning mix of lakefront, wetlands, ponds, and hardwood forest — a sanctuary for both wildlife and people. Along the way, George shared insights about local bird species, the area’s watershed, and the natural history that makes this spot so special.

This new trail is a true treasure — open to the public and perfect for a peaceful stroll or a moment of reflection in nature. (Trail entrance and parking are located at the back of The Lakes Lodge.)

At Sustainable Stillwater MN, we’re thrilled to see more opportunities like this that connect our community with nature. The John B. Goodman Trail is thoughtfully designed to be accessible for seniors and wheelchair users, making it easy for everyone to enjoy the beauty of Stillwater’s natural surroundings. Trails like this not only promote outdoor recreation and wellness but also deepen our shared commitment to protecting and appreciating the environment we call home.
