Campfires, Canoes, and Conservation — Honoring Trails and Camping Season

June kicks off with National Trails Day (the first Saturday of the month) and unfolds into National Camping Month, making it the perfect time to get outside, breathe deeply, and reconnect with the land. Whether you’re pitching a tent near the St. Croix River or wandering down the Brown’s Creek Trail, these experiences offer more than recreation — they provide a deeper relationship with the natural world.

National Camping Month

Camping invites us to slow down. There's something magical about cooking over a fire, sleeping under the stars, and waking up with the sunrise. Trails give us safe, scenic ways to explore — whether it's a peaceful forest path or a stretch of sidewalk that connects us to community and commerce.

In Stillwater and the surrounding region, we’re fortunate to have access to a growing network of multi-use trails and beautiful public lands. These aren’t just amenities — they’re investments in our well-being and in the health of the planet.

Sustainability Connection:

Camping and trails are more than just a summer escape — they’re climate-friendly choices. Hiking, biking, and camping require fewer resources than typical vacations that involve air travel, hotels, or cruises. Trails also encourage alternative transportation, reduce car use, and promote nature-based recreation that builds environmental appreciation.

And when we fall in love with a place — a river bend, a trail overlook, a grove of trees — we’re more likely to stand up and protect it.

Let’s honor June by getting outside, picking up litter as we go, and supporting efforts to expand green space and trail access for all.
