SSMN at the Minnesota State Fair

On Thursday, August 27, Sustainable Stillwater MN joined the 20th Eco Experience at the Minnesota State Fair. Hosted by Reuse Minnesota, the outreach event gave us an opportunity to introduce our organization to a broader audience and provide a unique example of one small way to reduce waste.

Our table featured reusable utensil holders sewn from fabric scraps. Each holder makes it easy to carry a fork, spoon, and knife in a purse or bag, offering a simple alternative to single-use plastic utensils. After eating, the utensils can be taken home, washed, and used again.

The idea was a hit. Visitors enjoyed choosing a free utensil holder to take home, and many commented on how creative and useful the project was. Throughout our shift, we engaged with approximately lots of people on a record-breaking attendance day. We shared information about Sustainable Stillwater MN, discussed the value of reuse and repair. It was especially encouraging to meet several visitors from Stillwater who stopped by to say hello.

The Eco Experience was filled with positive energy. In addition to connecting with fairgoers, our volunteers learned from other participating organizations and formed several promising networking connections.

Participating in such a large and well-known Minnesota event was a valuable opportunity for Sustainable Stillwater MN. Thanks to our partners at Reuse MN for including us!
