On Wednesday, May 7, all seven elementary schools in Stillwater Area School District ISD 834 participated in Bike to School Day 2025, making this year’s event a district-wide success!

With over 500 students biking, scootering, or walking to school, the event marked a milestone in active transportation for Stillwater’s youngest residents. Supported by Sustainable Stillwater MN and in partnership with each participating school, this nationwide initiative encouraged kids to ride safely and confidently while having a blast on their way to class.

The weather was perfect—a warm, sunny morning that made riding in feel even more fun. At Stonebridge Elementary, nearly 80 students arrived on two wheels, greeted by volunteer Kelsey Depew, who handed out bright stickers, fun bookmarks, and bike law postcards to celebrate and educate. “The energy was amazing,” said Kelsey. “So many smiles—it was like a mini bike parade!”

At Rutherford Elementary, more than 45 bikes lined the school entrance, with even more students arriving on scooters or by foot. Volunteers, including Executive Director Andi Arnold and parent Nicole Heggernes, helped with bike parking and kept the momentum upbeat throughout the morning.
Other schools saw impressive turnouts as well, with Brookview and Lake Elmo estimating high participation numbers. Volunteers across the district helped tally bikes, direct traffic, and keep the morning safe and celebratory.
Bike to School Day isn’t just about fun—it’s about empowering kids to embrace healthy habits, reduce emissions, and foster independence. We’re proud to support this movement and are incredibly grateful to all the volunteers, families, and school staff who made it possible.
A big THANK YOU to everyone who helped create such a joyful and impactful morning!
